The SunSow Girls Football Tournament is an annual community-led tournament in Uganda that empowers girls through sport while fostering confidence, leadership, and community development. Launched in 2019, the tournament has grown into a meaningful platform that celebrates athletic talent while supporting girls’ access to education and personal development in Kiboga District, Uganda.

Program delivery, implementation, and impact reporting are led by the SunSow Girls Football Tournament team. Visitors are encouraged to explore their work, stories, and updates directly at: http://sunsowagro.com/

Einstein Rising Canada’s Role - Why we support this program and how we show up.
One of Einstein Rising Canada missions is to support initiatives that expand girls’ access to education, particularly in communities where social and economic barriers make it more difficult for girls to remain in school. We have chosen to support the SunSow Girls Football Tournament because it aligns closely with this mission and demonstrates how community-based programs can encourage girls’ continued engagement in education.

Why This Program Matters
In rural Uganda, girls are less likely than boys to complete primary and secondary school. Even where free universal primary education exists, barriers such as school-related costs (uniforms, scholastic materials, meals, etc.), household responsibilities, and social expectations can limit girls’ ability to stay in school. Addressing these challenges requires approaches that build confidence, visibility, and community support for girls’ education.

The SunSow Girls Football Tournament uses sport as a practical and culturally relevant entry point to encourage school participation and personal growth. By creating positive, school-connected experiences, the program helps reinforce the importance of education while supporting girls in developing confidence, leadership, teamwork, and self-belief.

Einstein Rising Canada supports the tournament by mobilizing funding, raising awareness, and strengthening connections between the program and broader education-focused opportunities.

Program Goals - What Einstein Rising Canada aims to enable.
Einstein Rising Canada’s support of the SunSow Girls Football Tournament is guided by goals centered on improving access to education for girls and supporting programs that help girls remain engaged in learning.

For 2026, Einstein Rising Canada raised $5,000 to support the SunSow Girls Football Tournament.  Our goal is to raise an additional $3,000 to support post-tournament education-focused initiatives. Funds raised will help enable the continued delivery, growth, and long-term impact and sustainability of the program.

Through this partnership, Einstein Rising Canada aims to:

  • Expand access to education-enabling opportunities for girls through support of locally led initiatives.
  • Encourage continued school participation by supporting programs that build confidence, leadership, and motivation.
  • Support scholarship and mentorship pathways that help girls remain in school and pursue their education.
  • Strengthen community partnerships that reinforce the value of girls’ education.
  • Raise awareness of effective, community-driven approaches to improving girls’ access to education.

Although our founders have been supporting the Girls Football Tournament over the past five years, 2026 is Einstein Rising Canada’s first year supporting the Tournament as a Canadian registered not-for-profit organization. This initial year will focus on learning, relationship-building, monitoring post-tournament training, and evaluating the impact to help inform a long-term approach to sustained support.
